Veteran Support

We Honor Veterans
After providing great recognition and care to our veteran patients and their families, Northern Illinois Hospice is recognized as a level three partner for the We Honor Veterans program. This recognizes the services, activities and organization-wide commitment to our We Honor Veterans Program, learning more about veteran issues and needs, and working together to address them.
Veteran to Veteran Program
Our Veteran-to-Veteran program has exceptional veteran volunteers who offer a special kind of presence when they visit our veteran patients, their families and all veterans throughout the community. Each of these volunteers are inspired to give back, often for personal reasons.
Veteran volunteer David Borgetti speaks of his father’s and his own military service, saying he has “a special place in my heart” for veterans. David started with Northern Illinois Hospice because he wanted to “honor them one last time,” and thank them for their service and dedication. Veteran volunteer Lee Bach notes that sometimes our patients can’t always clearly express things – so what has meant a great deal to him is “the gleam in someone’s eyes” during a pinning and recognition ceremony. With such amazing veteran volunteers, and a staff dedicated to caring for veterans, we are looking forward to our continued growth and enhancing this program in service to those that have served.
We are honored to host meaningful and moving recognition and pinning ceremonies in addition to facilitating community-based education and networking events. Northern Illinois Hospice is an active and participating member of the Hospice Veteran Partnership of Northern Illinois.
