The registered dietician plans, organizes and conducts dietetic education for nursing personnel and other personnel. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary group with expertise in nutritional care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides professional, courteous service to the patient consistent with knowledge, training, and experience. Practices within the scope of licensure.
- Develops and implements a nutritional plan of care which is based on an assessment of nutritional needs as part of the patient’s total plan of care. Evaluates and reports results appropriately.
- The dietician works with the referring physician and interdisciplinary group to provide appropriate counseling to individuals and families/caregivers in the home or facility setting. They evaluate and instruct on nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and economics, and adapting plans to the individual’s illness, as indicated. They will reevaluate nutritional care by providing home follow-up care either at the patient’s residence, facility or by phone.
- Communicates appropriate dietary history and nutritional care data through written record systems.
- Records subjective and objective information, assessment, treatment plan and current progress notes in the patient’s clinical records including a discharge summary.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with major in the field of nutrition, or dietetics with courses in food preparation and service; methods and principles of teaching. Master’s Degree preferred. Current Illinois license
- Certification from the American Dietary Association preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License, auto insurance coverage, and have access to a reliable automobile.
- Minimum two years of experience in a related field of dietary work. A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
