Working under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for a range of financial duties and practices. Assists with accounts payable, general ledger entries, budgets, preparation of financial statements, internal and external auditing functions, billing, claims follow-up and foundation accounting.

  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.
  • Perform the processing of functional and benefit expenses allocations, monthly accruals, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries.
  • Responsible for processing and recording of accounts payable transactions ensuring that all invoices and reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with Northern Illinois Hospice’s Finance policies and procedures.
  • Manages the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue/receivables and work closely.
  • Works with the Development Department to ensure that revenue and receivables are reconciled at any given time.
  • Prepares and analyzes the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in accounting, non-profit a plus
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a critical thinking, fast paced environment
