Job description

Working under the direction of the Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement is responsible for organizational growth through integrated marketing strategies (including advertising, PR, direct marketing, and social media); market and agency data analysis; stakeholder and customer relations programs; and community education and engagement. Supports agency efforts to drive performance to achieve established annual goals and financial performance.

Essential Job Functions/ Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements comprehensive annual marketing plan and manages allocations in accordance to budget.
  • Builds and monitors community, customer, and patient perceptions of Northern Illinois Hospice as a high quality provider of services.
  • Understands key measures of financial success, include census, days of care, lengths of stay, levels of care, disease-specific needs, among others, and designs initiatives to achieve targets and goals.
  • Provides marketing support to other departments (e.g. Admissions, which focuses on Business Development; the Foundation, which has a goal to increase donor engagement and cultivation and event attendance; and the Volunteer Department, which must recruit volunteers to meet growing patient requests).
  • Maintains comprehensive working knowledge of Northern Illinois Hospice markets including government agencies, key referral sources, and competitors’ market positioning.
  • Forms collaborations with other community-based organizations, programs, and staff, and provides education to the entities and their stakeholders on the gift of hospice and the benefits and charitability of Northern Illinois Hospice.
  • Actively participates in national, state, and local hospice and healthcare marketing communities, organizations, and associations, promoting hospice care and positioning Northern Illinois Hospice as the region’s leader in end of life care.
  • Provides team members with coaching, support, mentoring, and monitoring to achieve performance excellence, consistent with the servant-leadership model and Northern Illinois Hospice standards, mission, vision, and core values. Submits quantitative and qualitative reports on department’s activities.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least five years in a marketing position (or related field) in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Corporate business management experience with a focus on integrated marketing strategies required.
  • Community and public relations experience required.
  • Healthcare industry experience a plus.
