JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and directing all activities and programs relating to the human resource strategy and operations including recruitment, selection, retention, orientation, and development of Northern Illinois Hospice employees to ensure a superior and diverse workforce. The position acts as an advocate for organization personnel and collaborates with other managers on Human Resource matters and ensures that management’s objectives are met through the effective application of human resources and through the fair and equitable treatment of employees. The Director of Human Resources ensures legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission and talent strategy. This employee is dedicated to creating a positive work environment and both an employee-oriented organizational and high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
Training and Licensure: SHRM or HRCI certification [SC1] preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of corporate business management.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills and public relations skills.
- Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Accreditation HR requirements.
- Knowledge of hospice or health care preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five to seven years of progressive management experience in human resources, preferably in a health care environment.
Other:
- Proven ability to perform and set priorities in high stress environment and to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn, maintain and incorporate the full utilization of the organization’s HRIS/Talent Management System.
